Turtles All The Way Down by John Green

Posted in Book reviews with tags , , , on 09/20/2018 by Keona-Mlh aka Beauty by LTL

In addition to my occult reads I do have a wide array of other genres that I read.

This is part of the contemporary read-a-thon for the week. This book is 3 of 7 that I have read. The other 2 will be posted on my Goodreads.

This book is about a 16 year old girl (guessing her age, maybe 17) that has a serious mental illness. It follows her thoughts and how she interacts with her family and friends, the anxiety that she deals with through out her days. A boy from her past that has shown her so much, and it is a tear jerker.

I shed some tears at the end of the book, and I really felt and wanted to see more of the characters, like how has their life changed after this set of occurrences. It was a really good book. I borrowed it from my library, but now I have to purchase it.

I like his writing style, and how you empathize with the characters. I think this author will be on my radar. I really want to see what else he has written.

Book Reviews

This past month I have been dropping a book review video every day of the month, and I have a few more to do. Here is the latest video so you can backtrack :Occult reference books.

What I do and have noticed actually, is that people read the same fucking books and they read them because everyone else does, but never did shit with the book. At least I went through majority of my books or have them scheduled to be performed in the next few months.

I will keep up with the book review videos since I got some many down this month. I have read majority of these books years ago, and I have so many that I want to get up and out. Even moving into the next month I will be dropping more videos maybe 2 times a week.

All in all, I really hate that phrase lol, I am feeling good in sharing the books that  I love and like with others. I tend to keep it pretty true to form with my colorful language in tack lol. I mean I really am not changing for anyone. I share what I love with people who want to listen, can’t get any better than that.

Read Books Update

So far I have read 5 Occult books. Not very happy about that. I am just not happy at that total at all. But I have 6 months to change it around and really knock out my Occult TBR list. So I have read 19 books total out of my Goodreads challenge of 52. I know that I will actually finish all 52 this year, but next year I have a better handle and idea on what I will be reading and keeping on track.

I will be getting audio book finally this year, so I can really get some books in. I really look forward to knocking out some books that I have always wanted to read. I will have reviews up on the following books on my YouTube Channel (Keona Esh). There are two that are already on the channel.

Walking the Twilight Path A Gothic Book of the Dead by Michelle Belanger

Magical States of Consciousness: Pathworking on the Tree of Life by Melita Denning

Karma-Yoga & Bhakti-Yoga by Swami Vivekananda

This month I will read 3-5 Occult books. They are the ones I want to knock out the most. Mainly because I told myself I will not buy any more books until I read the ones I have. Which I know is a lie lol. There a few new occult books that have came out that I will get lol. So there goes that promise.

I got my copy of this book yesterday. I was too excited to open it and begin reading it. And yes I finished it the same day. The cover is very glossy and it has some nice wight to it, 79 pages (85 including the authors info and last words and some blank pages for note taking, well I use them for note taking).

Inside this softback book you have some gorgeous pictures, in depth illustrations, and beautiful symbols. The pictures in this book are in color and you know what, I appreciate that. Black and white is fine and it is classic, but there is nothing like color images assaulting the senses you know.

You have an introduction chapter, eight chapters and a final word chapter separate form the author’s final words. What I really like is that this bad boy is in a series of 11 books. So what you are investing in, is an extremely in depth systematic working of the Tree of Death. I know I live for these types of books, because I get my whole magical life with them. I get put through the ringers and when you you talk about working with Satan and Moloch, you better bring your A game. You need to me mentally, physically and spiritually ready and aware before diving into this series of works. This, in my opinion, is for seasoned magicians who have went through being knocked on their asses a few times. For those who want to take their knowledge and working with the Tree of Death to the next level. This is not for those who think they can conquer everything because they been doing this for 5 years. No, when you go into this with an ego of I know I can conquer everything and not being humble, trust me they know you. They will fuck you up for GP, and you will come out missing a part of your mind. Play around with real work if you want to . This is deep shit.

This book draws from information that you can find in the Keys of Solomon. Which means yes this incorporates Solomon Ceremonial Magick but with a heavy twist, and seasoned with Chaos Magick.

There is this one sentence that stood out to me. It is on pg 40, first paragraph and it says “…I believe that when working the pentacle (point facing north/up…) is implemented to give energy and honor Other Gods…instead [the pentagram is facing downward] directs power to he black magician and honors them as their own free God.” I like this clarification of what the points on the pentagram mean. Everyone has their own way of interpreting it. But going into any working it would be nice to have a found view of the pentagram either point up or horns up.

This book takes you into the void extinguishing your light and replacing it with darkness. Becoming the Black Magician that you are setting out to be with this working. This working requires your blood (so if you can’t stand the site of blood or you get faint, you may just want to skip this book all together), a hefty amount of salt, and the ability for you to remain calm and open when going through these gates.

You didn’t think you were going to continue reading my reviews did you? Naw, I got something good for you.

Lilith Dark Feminine Archetype by Temple of Ascending Flame

I have been looking forward to this book since it was announced. Lilith is, after all my Spiritual Mother. I also contributed to this work, which is on page 17 (shameless plug). I just finished reading it this morning and I loved it all. I will actually go through the rituals during my sign of Scorpio. What better way to work with Lilith then during the time of Scorpio.

So let’s jump right in. This book comes in hardcover and paper book, 162 pages, with the rest being a list of books available which I always love when authors include them. There are 19 essays, rituals, poems, experiences, and guided meditations in this book. They are very wonderful in just reading, Plus you get to get a feel of each practitioner and how they related to the goddess, feel their experience and then try their rituals out for yourself. I will only point out a few of the rituals.

Fire and Lust by Asenath Mason and Rev Bill Duvendack brings you into the world of Lilith and her consort, one of many, Asmodeus (who is my spiritual Father so I was really excited when I was reading this). The invocation of these two will have your creative juices really rolling when you engage in this ritual. It can be done alone or with a partner, and the energy that is amassed and utilized in a productive manner will bring a lot of fruition to those performing it.

The Vase of Lilith by Nemo V, is a ritual that brings or pulls in the energy of Lilith with each offering giving. I actually decided to try a small version of it today. It worked out perfectly!

Invocation of Lilith bu Katie Anderson is a beautiful ritual to connect to that fire deep within, and Lilith helps you to release it. This ritual was very beautiful and so is the picture that she created as well.

Black Moon Lilith by Mike King is an invocation in becoming one with the Goddess and having her show you exactly what is needed to help you grow. When she joins with you, you will never be able to look at the world again in the same light, and that is worth it in itself.

There are a quite a few more rites, rituals both 7 and 5 days, and path workings, and even more with essays of deep knowledge about Lilith, and her mysterious origins. Reading the poems and the experiences that these practitioners have had with Lilith and how they communicate with her, is a feeling that I cannot put into words.

I already do my own workings with Mother, but I can’t wait to give the rituals and path workings in this book a run through. I schedule my workings and so I have enough time to get the materials and can actually have time for them. So this I will be looking forward to towards the Veil becoming thinner.

5 out of 5 as this is a complete grimoire of workings that will keep you busy for a few.
